Who I am
Hello! I’m Aimal, and I’m so flattered that you cared enough to click this page to find out a little more about me. But, I hope you’re ready to be disappointed because I am not an interesting person. 🙂 I grew up in Lahore, Pakistan and I moved to New York City in 2013 where I have lived ever since. I am currently in law school which eats up the vast majority of my time (and sanity), but I try my damndest to make room for things I love. I’ve been blogging since 2015, so I’m not new to this, but I thought a fresh start was very necessary.
Personally, I find random facts about people to be a less boring way to get to know them. Fall is my favorite time of the year because I hate warm weather but also, snow in New York City makes me want to die. My Aestheticâ„¢ is thunderstorms and the pouring rain and a cabin in the middle of the woods near the water (think: cozy, but also the perfect place to be murdered). I like horror movies, movie theaters and concerts. I’ve been listening to rock since before I could count, but I also love alt-r&b. The slower the song, the better. I could inhale Thai food every day for the rest of my life without getting tired of it, I have an unhealthy love for Zayn Malik (i.e., I’d die for him) and I got roped into k-pop in 2020 through EXO and I do not regret it one bit (but my wallet does.)
What I Read
When I first started blogging, I read almost exclusively young adult books. While I still read and cherish YA, I have found that my tastes have changed enough that I read largely adult books with some YA sprinkled in between. Genre-wise, I’ll read just about everything but my soul lies with fantasy, especially dark fantasy. More recently, I’ve begun to branch out more and have started reading thriller, horror (and to mix it up, some spicy romances, bless). I’m a character-focused reader above all else, and I appreciate when authors play around with themes of morality.
Over the decades, I’ve come to realize that I’m drawn to a certain type character, and it’s this type of character that inspired the blog name. I enjoy morally gray, or sometimes outright morally corrupt, characters whose arcs are informed by their internal struggles with duty, loyalty or honor. The blog name was a nod to that: to the devils I found amongst the pages who stuck with me, to the devils these characters find within themselves.
That’s all there is, folks. I’ve mentioned the old blog a couple of times, and if you’re interested in seeing what I’ve posted since 2015, you can find the website here. Otherwise, you can find me here. If you’d like to chat, please don’t hesitate to hit me up on Twitter or send me a message on here. I promise my reviews are much meaner than I am.
